Watching the Yankees take Game 1

Our seatsMy first playoff game was a resounding success, thanks to a gritty performance from CC and Jeter getting on base roughly 300% of the time he was up.

The Good:

- Despite being high up, our seats had an awesome angle and it was a great game to watch/be at. Very happy to have attended my first postseason game (and victory).
- A-rod has, at least for now, overcome his playoff demons with two key RBI
- Brett and I tried the garlic fries for the first time. I don’t want to exaggerate their strength, but when I picked up Lauren’s copy of Twilight, it burst into flames.
- Unlike my trip to CitiField, no one was dressed as Spider Man, or tried to assault me
- The Stadium got loud when it counted and didn’t jump on A-Rod early
- My bathroom break was perfectly timed such that I didn’t miss a single pitch, even including a cursory hand washing

The Bad:

- I don’t know if it was the early start time, but the Stadium took awhile to fill up, and people left somewhat early. Granted, we were ahead convincingly, but when you see games like the Twins-Tigers playoff (and seemingly most other key games), you don’t see people rushing for the exits. When the start time is that early, you would think people could stick around.
- Joba will likely be so good out of the pen that it will further cloud next year’s moves (although this is a good problem to have). With Hughes, we may have the greatest ‘pen of all time next year, along with 1.8 starters. For those keeping score, CC is 1, Andy is .7, and AJ’s shattered psyche is the rest.
- Jorge had an abysmal game behind the plate, most notably when he leisurely strolled to pick up a ball and allowed a run to score. I don’t know if the Molina thing was on his mind or what, but that wasn’t like him – he always hustles behind the plate. Not last night.

The Ugly:

- The guy sitting to my left had something up with his hand (leprosy?), along with about 8 pounds of dirt all over him. He was about 270lbs and took up most of my seat, so his high fives were both painful and disease causing. Also, he farted so badly during the 7th that a guy several seats away got upset about it.

On that note, here’s some photos from the game, along with Mo getting the final out to end the game.
