AT&T predicts the future

In this AT&T ad from 1993, the company lists all kinds of possibilities for the future (Have you opened a door with the sound of your voice? You will). They end by saying the company that will bring it to you is AT&T.

On one hand, this commercial is incredibly forward thinking. Many of these technologies not only exist, but are in widespread use now. Granted, the technologies existed back then too, but it is still somewhat bold for a commercial of that time – how many people expected GPS use and videoconferencing in an age of 2400 BPS modems and AOL?

Here is what the ad should say:

Have you ever been on a call, then suddenly find that the line is dead? You will.
Have you ever given a company $200 billion in taxpayer dollars to upgrade its network, then watch the company keep the money and post huge profits? You will.
Have you ever wanted to buy an iPhone, and not worry about making a choice of phone carriers? You will.
Or had a conversation with a friend, then wondered why the government had a transcript of it? You will.
And the company that will bring it to you? AT&T
