Jeter ties the Iron Horse

This week will be “non-topical blog post week” since I have lots of catching up to do..that’s probably the best hook to use when starting a blog post. I blame my introduction to Twitter and the start of football season. That said…

Thanks to Brett’s aforementioned ticket package, I was able to take Lauren to see the game against Tampa Bay on 9/9. Joba had a rough start (his specialty), but it eventually turned into one of those accidental pitching duels. The real story, though, was Jeter of course. After entering a mini-slump leading up to the hits record, Jeter got on with a bunt single and kept going throughout the game.

In the 7th, using his tautological Jeterian swing, the Captain reached safely to tie the all time record. The crowd had a playoff atmosphere every time Jeter was up (there wasn’t much to cheer about for most of the game) and the Stadium exploded when he got his third hit.

I have been lucky enough to be at the 13-inning, instant-classic victory over Pedro and the Red Sox in 2004 (Jeter’s dive into the stands), Jeter’s 2000th hit, and now this. It’s been great to watch Jeter over the years and hopefully he can get another ring in 2009.

Meanwhile, since the game has already been extensively covered, here’s video from Jeter tying the record. I would have recorded longer, but in the chaos that followed caused me to hit stop by accident.
