In order to properly share some important cancer-related information, I would like to post the following helpful facts I put together last year:
Fact 1: Breasts. We all support them, and the women (and men, I guess) they belong to. Yet, hundreds of thousands of people are dying from breast cancer each year. This is an affront to the men, women, lesbians and babies everywhere that support and rely on breasts, and by extension, the family members and loved ones they are attached to.
Fact 2: My mother and her sister (Aunt Randi, to those familiar) have done the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer for around 10 years now. Together, just the two of them have raised $85,000+. This is a lot of money! Imagine the gentleman from the NY lottery commercial is saying it into a microphone to truly appreciate its impact. They have done this all from individual contributions and hard work.
Fact 3: In addition to the time and effort of fundraising, the walk involves the following things that none of Three Word Chant’s readers would be willing to do – 6 months of training, walking 40 miles in two days, pitching a tent, showering in a truck, only using port-a-pottys, and wearing ostentatious pink shirts with terrible puns like “We’re the breast!”.
Fact 4: By now, you are squirming in your chair at your 9-5 job/graduate school/unemployment line. Your sorrow over this lingering disease has given way to an overwhelming urge to contribute somehow (and also assuage your guilt for not having the cojones to walk so far and shower in a truck yourself). Well, worry no more!
