On Friday, I finally went to see Avenue Q, which I’ve wanted to do for about a year and is on my 101 list. The show is essentially an X-rated Sesame Street – it deals with the challenges of young adulthood but is acted out (mostly) by puppets.
The show’s absurdities start with the music – they have classic songs like “Everyone’s a Little Bit Racist” and “It Sucks to Be Me.” My favorite part of the show, though, was the Bad Idea Bears. They are two adorable puppets that say things like “She’s drunk! Take her home now! Yayyyyyyy!” and offer the main character a noose when he gets depressed. They remind me of some friends from school. At the end of the play, they turn to Scientology of course.
Unfortunately, the show is ending its fun on September 13th, so if you want to see it you need to do it this week. I highly recommend it.
Since this is a blog post, I will leave you with another Avenue Q classic: The Internet Is For Porn.
