Concerts that I have attended, photographed and yet not blogged about (Jason Mraz edition)

IMG_0241Over the last three weeks, Lauren and I went to see two concerts that we planned out awhile ago. I took a bunch of pictures, had funny things happen, then decided not to write anything about them so I could be an abject blogging failure. Well no more.

On August 7th, we went to see Jason Mraz with Erica and Bryan at the Jones Beach Theater. Although I’ve been to Jones Beach about 40 times since I was 10, I had never seen a concert there. I’m not a huge Jason Mraz fan but I heard he put on a good show.

I would describe the opening acts for you, but we got there late (insert shocked noise here). That said, when we did arrive, there was a white rapping clown who kept taking his pants off repeatedly. This is who Jason Mraz wanted on stage right before him – obviously a sign of good judgment.

That said, our seats were great, despite being high up (pictured above). What I IMG_0248didn’t realize was that Jason Mraz is a smelly hippie. He spent most of the show telling everyone to love one another, find peace with nature, and at one point led the crowd in a Buddhist “OM” chant.

The highlight of the show was undoubtedly the people sitting behind us (this would become a concert trend). There were six girls and one extremely effeminate guy, all no older than 16. The guy kept clapping and whistling whenever Jason Mraz moved, and the girls screamed as if we were watching the Beatles. Every time a song ended, one would say “How old do you think he is? 30? Do you think he would still get with me even though he’s twice my age?” Then they would all giggle.

Overall, we had a good time but I don’t know that I would see him again. As far as the extracurricular part of the show, despite the apparently whorish nature of Long Island youtes, these kids would be nothing compared to what lay ahead. In the meantime, here’s a video of “Lucky” from the show.
