Always good to do #1 on your list right? Last week, I bought a bike, something I had not done since I was in either middle or high school. I had no idea what I was looking for, since my expertise around bikes began and ended with “two wheels.” That said, it was helpful to go to a great shop.
I got the bike at Tulip Bike Shop, which is in Floral Park. Ed, the owner/manager of the shop, is a good friend of Lauren’s dad, and gave me a great deal (this is Ed with the 1,900 bike-related items he sells)
It was a solid pickup – in addition to the bike, I got a helmet, allen wrench multi-tool, a small carrying case, an extra tube and wheel repair kit and a water bottle holder. Lauren’s dad then got me gloves, an odometer and some other stuff, so I basically went from no bike to excessive cyclist overnight. Additionally, despite the Weissmans’ best efforts, I was able to leave without purchasing bike shorts (Phil) or a basket (Lauren).
Friday night, Ed also dropped off a bike rack so I could actually take this thing outside of my neighborhood. I went on a 6 mile ride in CT on Sunday and it was a great ride..it’s incredibly lightweight and very smooth. Now that this is taken care of, I need to plan my ride to Lauren’s house. I’m thinking of riding the bike over one night and then riding home at 6 AM before work one day. If I ever stop blogging suddenly, it means that I attempted this.
